Title
Ford advertisement in the January 1946 National Geographic magazine
Subject
"And it's styling will stay smart!"
Description
January 1946 Ford. Smart styling is emphasized. The car is presented in a placeless landscape on the bottom where the driver is male and the passenger is a young boy. The car is pointed to the right. They are headed somewhere outside our line of vision, just right of us. The top right image is of two women with trees and a market in the background. One woman holds a basket of produce. The nose of the car enters the bubble from the right. This ad may be more of a statement about gender roles. The bubble which contains the women is held by a man's hand, suspended over the nose and hood of the car.
In this ad, men drive, women wait, they admire the style of the car, women shop for groceries and the men livery them around town.
